Kids Birthday Ideas - Games At Birthday Parties
What Kinds Of Games Should I Offer? Good Question!
As with the rest of your planning and thinking about kids birthday ideas, the games you choose will depend on the age of the child, their interests, and of course the theme of the party.
BUT…you don’t have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to kids birthday games. You can easily make the ‘old standby’ games fit your theme. Simon Sez becomes “Princess Sez” or the “Pirate Captain Sez.”
Pin the Tail on the Donkey becomes “Pin the Tiara on the Princess” or “Pin the Patch on the Pirate.” So, you see that with some simple changes, ordinary games can become lots of fun for everyone.
Music that is appropriate to your theme is perfect to use during your games. Simply start a game when your music starts. You can easily find CDs for most movies and TV shows…and believe it or not, you can usually find these at your local library…meaning they can be borrowed for free!! How cool is that?!?
I recently read about someone who threw a Hawaiian party for her daughter and used a video on beginning hula dancing. The girls at the party learned to hula! And it was free!
Here’s a final piece of advice kids birthday ideas and games at kids birthday parties…have some ‘wind down’ activities.
You should plan a couple of quiet activities at the end of your kids birthday party. Depending on the ages of the kids at the party, you can have them color, work on a puzzle, make a simple craft, or you can tell them a story, or put on a video that’s related to your theme.
The end result of your wind down activities will be the very welcome sound of quiet. Then when the parents arrive to pick up their kids, they will be very grateful!
On a final note…don’t sweat it if the kids at your party don’t want to play the games you have planned. If they’re having fun just playing tag in the backyard, then let them have fun! Be prepared with activities, but remember who your guests are, and let them have a terrific time being kids!
